Lucknow Takes Major Step Towards Becoming a ‘Green City’ with Eco High-Tech Nursery Project

Lucknow: In a significant initiative aimed at enhancing urban greenery and strengthening environmental conservation, the Lucknow Municipal Corporation is developing a state-of-the-art “Eco High-Tech Nursery” at Basaha on Kursi Road.

On Saturday evening, Mayor Sushma Kharkwal and Additional Municipal Commissioner Dr. Arvind Kumar Rao inspected the under-construction nursery and reviewed the progress of the project. During the visit, officials were instructed to complete the construction work at the earliest while maintaining quality standards.

Modern Nursery Spread Across 1.2 Hectares

The modern nursery is being developed over an area of nearly 1.2 hectares and will feature advanced technology along with eco-friendly infrastructure. According to the municipal corporation, the facility is expected to become one of the most modern nurseries in Uttar Pradesh.

From plant production to maintenance, all activities at the nursery will be carried out using scientific and mechanised methods.

Scientific Plant Production System

Under the planned system, nutrient-rich media for plants will first be prepared and seed trays will be cleaned before sowing operations begin. Advanced machinery will be used for seed sowing, while a specialised germination chamber with controlled temperature and humidity is being established to ensure healthy plant growth.

Officials said the system would enable the production of a large number of healthy saplings every month.

Polyhouses and Shade-Net Structures for Plant Protection

To strengthen the germinated plants, hardening chambers are also being developed at the site. In addition, polyhouses, green shade-net houses, and poly tunnels are being constructed to protect plants from excessive heat, rainfall, and pests.

A large open-field area is also being developed where plant quality and growth capacity will be tested scientifically.

Entire Nursery to Run on Solar Energy

One of the key highlights of the project is that the entire nursery will operate on solar power. A 20-kilowatt off-grid solar power plant is being installed to meet the energy requirements of the facility.

Due to its environmentally sustainable infrastructure and renewable energy usage, the project has been named the “Eco High-Tech Nursery.” Officials said the initiative would not only conserve energy but also contribute significantly to environmental protection.

Affordable Plants for Citizens and Employment Generation

The nursery will produce high-quality flowers, vegetables, and ornamental plants, including advanced varieties from India and abroad. The municipal corporation stated that citizens will be able to purchase quality plants at affordable prices, encouraging gardening and environmental awareness among residents.

Speaking on the occasion, Sushma Kharkwal said the project would prove to be a major step towards transforming Lucknow into a “Green City.” She added that apart from beautifying the city, the initiative would also create local employment opportunities.

The municipal corporation is also planning to develop similar eco-friendly projects in other parts of the city in the future.
